Let The Fabric Do The Talking
You have a choice of creating a set of four different but related placemats built from fat quarters or a set of four identical placemats made from yardage. Fusible fleece is fused to the backing fabric and the placemats are finished by stitching the front and back together right sides together, turned and edge stitched - no binding (it just looks like they're bound).
